NHS services over Christmas and New Year


The NHS is open and here to help you and family over the festive period.


This Christmas and New Year, Surrey residents should follow government advice on coronavirus.

If you or someone you live with has coronavirus symptoms:

  • a high temperature
  • a new, continuous cough
  • a loss of, or change to, your sense of smell or taste

Self-isolate and book a test immediately.

If your symptoms worsen or you feel that you cannot manage at home, please refer to the NHS 111 online coronavirus service.

Please do not go to your GP practice or community pharmacy. 

NHS 111 first

If you think you need medical help right now, go straight to NHS 111 - available on the phone and online, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

NHS 111 is there for when you need medical help fast, but it is not a life threatening emergency.

How NHS 111 works

You will be asked questions about your symptoms on the website or by speaking to a trained adviser on the phone. Depending on the situation, you will then:

  • Find out what local services can help you
  • Be connected to a nurse, emergency dentist, pharmacist or GP
  • Get a face to face appointment if you need one
  • Be told how to get any medicine you may need
  • Get self-care advice

Please note that Pharmacies across Surrey have restarted their Pandemic Delivery Service for patients in Tier 4 of government restrictions.

Pharmacists and their teams are an essential part of the NHS and need your help and support during the coronavirus pandemic.

Always treat staff with respect, they are doing their best to provide you with the medicines and advice you need.

Please remember to wash your hands regularly and to wear a face covering when visiting your local pharmacy.
